The process of burning farm residue is one of the major causes of air pollution in parts of north India, deteriorating the air quality. Paddy stubble burning is commonly witnessed in the plains of Punjab too. Students of Sacred Stanford School visited nearby fields where paddy havesting was in process and encouraged the farmers to avoid stubble burning and promote its utilization being a valuable resource. They explained that stubble burning not only diminishes soil fertility by destroying helpful bacteria and fungi living in the soil but also accelerates the emission of poisonous gases like carbon monoxide and sulfur oxides, along with large quantities of particulate matter highly harmful to soil and environmental health. Students urged the farmers to use reflectors on vehicles during foggy weather of upcoming winter season. Catch the moments.
